FEED and EPIC Aerial Surveillance, Search and Rescue, UAE

So as to keep pace with today’s standards and conditions, the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police intended to modernise its aerial surveillance capabilities and at the same time improve its operating range and quality of service. This was to be realised by upgrading the existing fleet of helicopters with state-of-the-art visual surveillance and tracking equipment.

The new system is to comprise an Emirate-wide reception network of antennas linked to three operation rooms in strategic locations through a secure, encrypted microwave and fibre network. The modernised fleet of the Abu Dhabi Police helicopters will be fitted with daylight, infrared and night vision technology to enhance operation both at day and night time.

Ground equipment will include IP-based video distribution, HD-archiving and replay facilities, server networks, display systems and facilities, including software providing consolidated aerial awareness for the commanders and mobile handheld devices. In the first phase of the project Our Team was entrusted with carrying out the initial survey work, elaboration of the requirement study, development of specifications, and detailed technical design, determination of optimum technology, compilation of the FEED and EPIC tenders as well as with the evaluation of offers and contract negotiations.

In the second phase of the project, Our Team currently supervises system installation, upgrading of the helicopter fleet, command and control rooms, equipping of mobile forces and their respective training.
